The chromosome arms being labeled p and q always makes me think of the old phrase “mind your Ps and Qs”. As a cancer researcher, I’d love it if that phrase changes to mean avoiding activities that make oncogenic genetic mutations likely to occur, rather than minding one’s manners! :)
I love this thought. Part of the problem surely is finding reliable guidance -- people have become cynical about contradictory studies. Another is the lag between risky behavior and consequences. If cancer followed obesity like heartburn follows pepperoni, people might be more careful.
